Win the Photo Contest and Travel with SHIP'S CAT,
the Guardian of Hopeful Journeys

WeBase operates accommodation facilities nationwide and has expanded to five locations in the last eight years. At each location stands a giant cat statue called SHIP'S CAT. These sculptures, which are public pieces of art created by one of Japan's leading contemporary artists Mr. Yanobe, symbolize our journey and growth. WeBase has continued and will continue to evolve alongside SHIP'S CAT.
As Mr. Yanobe says, life is like a journey. Given that we live in a world where the future is difficult to predict, we are excited to host an online photo contest featuring SHIP'S CAT. The contest invites participants to come together and envision a brighter and more hopeful future. The theme of the photo contest is "Hope." As a token of our gratitude, WeBase will present the winners with a unique "trip"  that only WeBase can offer.

How to participate

There are three easy steps to participate. You can submit up to 10 works.

Follow the official Instagram account of the accommodation you want to visit or support. Click here for designated accommodations. *You can follow multiple accounts.

Step 2

Camera icon

Take a photo of SHIP'S CAT (if the photo was taken by the applicant, it is OK even if it was taken before the campaign).

  • Only photos taken by the applicant themselves are accepted.

  • You can submit up to 10 works.

The creator of SHIP'S CAT , Kenji Yanobe, one of Japan's leading contemporary artists, will serve as the chairman of the judging committee, and the campaign secretariat will conduct a rigorous review.

Announcement of the Winners

The winner will be announced on the campaign website around the afternoon of Tuesday, June 25, 2024. Please bookmark this page.


After that, the campaign office will contact the winners directly via the message function on the WeBase official account and inform them about handing over the prizes.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can one person apply multiple times?
    Yes. It is possible. Multiple applications are allowed from the same account during the campaign period.
  • Can I apply using a photo of SHIP'S CAT that I took in the past?
    Yes. It is possible. Photos of SHIP'S CAT taken before the start of the campaign are also eligible for submission as long as they were taken by the applicant themselves.
  • Can I use photos of SHIP'S CAT figures or merchandise?
    You can apply with a photo of a SHIP'S CAT figure or merchandise as long as it fits the theme of this competition.
  • Where can I take photos of SHIP'S CAT?
    We have created a map to help you meet SHIP'S CATs across the country, including those at WeBase in five locations across the country.
  • Can I enter the WeBase to take photos of SHIP'S CAT?
    During the photo contest, some areas will be open for photography, but as SHIP'S CATs are installed in different locations, please follow the instructions at each location when taking photos. Also, please take photos without causing any inconvenience to other guests staying at the hotel, visiting, or passing by.
  • Can I apply via social media other than Instagram?
    We apologize, but as this campaign is an Instagram-based campaign, it can only be applied via Instagram. If you don't have an account, please visit the official Instagram website.
